Most Important Factor When Hiring

How Do You Hire?

The New York Times did an interview over the weekend with Nell Minow, co-founder of the Corporate Library, where she talked about managing people.

When asked what she looks for in making a hiring decision, she said:

“I really look for a kind of a passionate curiosity. I think that is indispensable, no matter what the job is. You want somebody who is just alert and very awake and engaged with the world and wanting to know more … ”

I always look for that one quality or piece of work experience that differentiates my primary candidate from the rest of the group that meets all other hiring requirements.

What is the single most important quality that you look for? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

  1. Enthusiasm. Enthusiasm in general, not just as it relates to the job. I can teach some one to recruit, I can't teach them to be enthusiastic.

Enthusiasm is a great trait. Who wouldn't want Richard Simmons working in the cubicle next door?
