Zookeeper Picked by Prez to lead Federal HR Zoo!

Nation's Top Zookeeper John Berry to Head OPM

John Berry, currently the director of the Smithsonian Institution's National Zoological Park is expected to be nominated by President Obama to become the new director of the Office of Personnel Management.

“From turning around the National Zoo to fostering a more productive work
environment at the Department of the Interior, John Berry has a tremendous
record of effective management in key public service roles. I'm confident that
he will provide that same leadership at OPM to help ensure that government works
for the American people the way it should,” Obama said in a statement.

OPM, the government's human resources agency, impacts a wide range of issues affecting federal employees, including health care, retirement, and other benefits; workplace rights; and labor-management relations.

Berry's nomination is supported by the Human Rights Campaign, a gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender advocacy organization.

“The selection of John Berry to head the Office of Personnel Management,
making him the highest-ranking openly gay official ever, is a meaningful step
forward for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community,” Human Rights
Campaign President Joe Solmonese said.
