Sweet Deal for the Florida Everglades

Florida Everglades Deal With US Sugar Revised. Sweet!

Florida Governor Charlie Crist announced a revised deal with US Sugar today that will permit the company to retain ownership of its facilities in the Everglades.

The state of Florida will acquire the land on which the facility stands and thousand of surrounding acres of the Everglades for $1.3 billion dollars.

The original deal called for US Sugar to end operations in six years. The new deal may make that unnecessary.

Crist made the announcement a day late after having to make an emergency landing at an airport in Sarasota yesterday while enroute to the press conference in Clewiston, Florida.
