Satyam achieves pinnacle of learning

Indian Company wins major Training and Development Award: Satyam is # 1 in 2007 ASTD BEST Award rankings

This is a post for our visitors from India.

It discusses the accomplishment by Satyam Computer Services Ltd. in becoming the first company outside the United States to win the number one spot in the 2007 American Society for Training and Development BEST Awards. The balance of the post are described by Ed Cohen, Sr. VP, Satyam School of Leadership,Satyam Computer Services Ltd. and Author, Leadership Without Borders in his EDitorial on the topic which can be found by clicking on the title of the article or here.

One year after watching Booz Allen take the number one spot in the ASTD BEST Awards (I was head of learning for them prior to Satyam), I had the pleasure to walk onto the stage to receive the number one ranking for Satyam (http://astd.org/). This is a proud moment for me, for Satyam and even more so for India. Satyam is the first company outside of the United States to achieve number one. As a company from India, we take pride in achieving this milestone for India and are proud to say that four other companies, ICICI Bank, Tata Consultancy, Infosys, and Wipro also made the list.

Satyam has been ranked # 1 in the ASTD (American Society for Training and Development) BEST Award.

The ranking and the award recognizes Satyam’s demonstrated excellence across: alignment, C-level involvement, efficiency, effectiveness, innovation, investment in learning, learning opportunities for employees, measurement of the effectiveness of learning, and success with non-training solutions to business needs.

Some of the key reasons why Satyam achieved the # 1 ranking this year, a huge leap from # 15 in 2006 are:

  • The successful rolling out of the Full Life Cycle Leadership (FLCL) Program and the senior leaders’ involvement in it
  • The success of the SatyamWay Certification Program
  • The establishment of the Satyam School of Leadership and the success of its learning programs
  • The long-running effectiveness of the Entry Level Training Program (ELTP)

Speaking about the Full Life Cycle Business (FLCB) model that transformed Satyam over the past two years, Ed Cohen, senor vice president at Satyam School of Leadership said: “It’s an ongoing challenge to combat turnover among new leaders, and we have learned that the first year is crucial. As we rolled out the FLCB model, we wanted our new leaders to be prepared for maximum success.”

On the success of the SatyamWay Certification Program, Rajul Asthana, vice president of Satyam’s Learning Center said: “Through the development of this program, we demonstrated that we can quickly participate in any kind of high-level rollout. We had all the right pieces and didn’t have to chase anybody down. We showed that senior leaders were involved from the beginning, and we set the expectation for certification and provided resources for that. I think the program proved that learning doesn’t have to be mandatory for people to come out in large numbers.”

Above all, the ranking and the award underlines Satyam’s commitment to retain the entrepreneurial spirit that generates innovation without sacrificing quality in the face of phenomenal growth.
