Relocation Assistance Programs

I am undertaking my own personal relocation assistance program this week. We have sold our house and are moving into an apartment for seven months. I haven't lived in an apartment since 1991. It is going to be strange.

Moving sets off strange emotional responses. Insecurity, excitement, nostalgia. This move is only 40 minutes across town, but as I drove around last night looking for somewhere to buy dinner while we unpacked stuff at the apartment, I realized I didn't know where to go to get a Subway sub.
Christ, the world may end soon! Fortunately, like an oasis in the desert, one appeared soon on the horizon.

This house holds many memories. We were married in the backyard in 2004. My step-daughter graduated high school while we lived here. It is the only house our dog has ever lived in. On and on.
The good news is, we aren't selling because we have to, or because someone took the house away, or for any bad reason. We just felt like it made sense to make a change, and want to give the market a little time to settle before we jump back in. So, I get 7 months access to a work out facility, community pool, billiards table, and even an Espresso machine thrown in with my monthly rent. On top of that, we got several incentives for moving into the community we are heading too. We even made money on the sale of our house.

I am sad to be leaving, and yet looking forward to the next little adventures this kind of move offers.

Not every homeowner gets off as easy though. From Yahoo, a report on the difficulties that NBA star Allen Iverson is having in selling his palatial home in Villanova, Pennsylvania. Iverson moved to Denver after being traded by the Philadelphia 76ers two years ago.

Denver Nuggets guard Allen Iverson has been looking to sell his 14,000 square foot home in Villanova, Pennsylvania for over a year now. According to the Wall Street Journal's Private Properties column, Iverson has dropped the price to a "desperation deal" of $3.999 million — a million less than he paid for it in 2003.

The six-bedroom home is on four acres that include a pool house, stream and waterfall. The chateau-style home on Chateau Lane has four levels including a great room with floor-to-ceiling Palladian windows. The master suite has his and hers marble bathrooms, a coffee bar, media area and a veranda overlooking the grounds. There are four additional en-suite bedrooms and a separate guest quarters with a bedroom, living room and kitchenette. The entertainment level has a 12-seat movie theater, billiard room, and a lounge with a custom wood carved bar accommodating 200+ wine bottles.

If you're interested in purchasing this perfect little getaway pad, you can check out the listing here.
If I sit out of the market long enough, maybe he'll drop the price a little more.

  1. Oh Mike, my situation is more like AI than yours. We're not in palatial mansion territory, but we're thinking about dropping our price.

The good news? We love our new area, so it's not all doom & gloom.

    GOOD LUCK!
