2008 marks the 10th anniversary of Fortune's list of the 100 Best Companies to Work For. Even while America seems to be slipping into an economic slack period, many of these top companies are adding jobs, and seeing growth in business, pay, and the perks they offer to their associates.
Per the linked article by Anne Fisher, Senior writer at Fortune, "it's worth noting that the 100 Best Companies are phenomenal job-creation machines. They employed about 1.6 million people in 2007, up 16% from the year before."
While it may not be easy getting in the door, there is always the chance that it will happen. It happened to me this year. I started a position in Human Resources with Publix Super Markets, 91st on the 2008 list in January. According to Fisher's article, the odds can be long: "The average company on the list has 15,853 people on the payroll - and gets 96,062 applicants each year."
